The significance of Newton’s discovery was that it brought all of the forces of the universe into one discussion.
No longer were there laws that governed the earth, and a separate set that governed the heavens. Everything and everyone operated under the same pressures, binding them together, drawing them closer and governing their interactions.
In many ways, we as a Western society have given more thought to the ramifications of the universe’s physical interactions than to the forces that govern our humanity. What are the forces that bind us together: that give a collective structure to our lives?
