SUNDAY 24 MARCH 2024

Music from the Sephardic tradition reflects the vast history of a people whose roots extend to Jewish communities in Medieval Spain and Portugal. As they were expelled from the Iberian Peninsula into the broader European context, this rich tradition picked up influences from the Mediterranean and beyond: Turkij, Morocco, Bulgaria, and so much more.

Singer Tamar Ilana brings a wealth of authentic experience both inherited and lived to her knowledge of the music of displaced people throughout Eastern Europe and beyond. Collaborating with Andrew Chung and Daniel Ramjattan, she will share stories and songs from the Sephardic Jewish tradition, tying them to other stories of exile.
